Death
Mr. Thomas "Tommy" Lee Morton, 64, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at his home in Kannapolis. A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Friday, May 1, 2026, at Zion Freewill Baptist Church. Pastor Tommy Williams and Kendall Wingler will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 to 1:45 pm Friday at Zion Freewill Baptist Church. Tommy was born May 4, 1961 in Burlington. He was a son of the late Bobby Lynn Morton and Flora Mae Furr Morton. He worked for UCLS as a street light installer and lineman, taking pride in helping bring light and service to his community. He was a faithful member of Zion Free Will Baptist Church where he was also a Deacon. In his free time, he found his greatest joy in the simple blessings of life-spending time with his beloved grandchildren, fishing, horseback riding, and enjoying the beauty of the outdoors. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Kee; and four brothers, Rev. Bobby Richard Morton, Robert Morton, David Morton and Frankie Morton. Tommy is survived by his wife, Amanda Sutherland Morton; two sons, Mitchell Morton (Nicole) of Kannapolis and Tommy Morton (Hollie) of Richfield; brother, Michael Morton (Dawn) of Kannapolis; and four grandchildren, Joshua, Allison, Kenslie and Huntlee.
