Edward “Ed” Louis Hughes II, 83, of Glen Rock, passed away at home on Monday, April 6, 2026. Born August 27, 1942, he was raised in Baltimore by his parents, the late Edward L. and Demetra (Diamond) Hughes. Following in his father’s footsteps, Ed was a master electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 24 for over 30 years. During this time, he oversaw major electrical projects, such as the state-of-the-art Camden Yards stadium, and shaped the careers of hundreds of journeymen electricians as both an on-the-job mentor and evening instructor. He also met his late wife, Gloria “Kay” Hughes. In 1993, Ed and Kay became the owners of Whistle Stop Bike Shop in New Freedom, where they became well known in the local community. Ed was actively involved with the York County Rail Trail Authority and advocated for the preservation of the rail trail. He was also a member of the Shrewsbury Township Board of Supervisors, where he was responsible for emergency management, and was vice-chairman of the Southern York County Regional Planning Commission. Ed is survived by his children, Michael Hughes, and his wife, Stefanie, and Shawn Furr, and her husband, Martin; his stepson, Jason Knauer, and his wife, Cheryl; eight grandchildren, Collin (Faith), Alyssa, and Cayden Hughes; Shannon Garrett King (Corey) and Chris Furr; and Elijah, Owen, and Olivia Knauer; and three great-grandchildren, Zoe, Sophie, and Jake King. Also survived by his sister, Joanne Hughes. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
