Death

Mae Deter Hargett, age 86, died Monday, February 9, 2009, at Willow Ridge Nursing Center after an extended illness. Mae was the daughter of the late George W. Deter and Wynona Briscoe Deter. She was a life-long resident of Rutherford County, having grown up in the community of Ruth. She was a member of Oak Springs Baptist Church. Mae was devoted first to her husband of 66 years, Sam, and her family. She was active in her church communities throughout her life. Mae was a partner in the family owned textile business. After retirement she was a devoted volunteer for Hospice and the Gideon Ministry and many Christian lay missions throughout the United States, overseas, and in the local community. She was a benefactor of property for the Trinity School in Ruth where Mae was raised as a child. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel M. Hargett, Jr., an infant son, Samuel III and two daughters, Deanna Hargett Henson, and Judith Hargett Morrison.
