Death
Dick, a loving father, businessman, and active community member, was born in Carbon Hill, Ala., and attended Tuscaloosa County High School, where he played on the football team. He graduated from the University of Alabama in 1951, after serving his country in the U.S. Air Force as an aerial photographer. Dick was an active member of the Sigma Chi fraternity, and later a dedicated mentor to the society for three decades. He also worked as an instructor at the University of Alabama, and was a strong supporter of campus athletics, academia, and the arts. Dick was the owner of James D. West & Associates Real Estate Appraisals for 32 years, was an active member of the Tuscaloosa Rotary, and proudly served as a delegate for them in the Cultural Exchange program with their Sister City of Shorndorf, Germany. He also served for many years as a respected member of the Tuscaloosa Zoning Board. He was an outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, boating, marksmanship, and hiking. He was an avid reader, history buff, and storyteller extraordinaire.Endnotes
