KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Thursday for Marelle “Bob” Benton, 66, 1010 N. Ridge Ave., who was found dead at his home Monday (Dec. 5, 1994). Born Sept. 15, 1928 in Madison County, Ga., Benton was a son of the late Roy Gilliam and Mary Ellen Graham Benton. He was a retired painter. Survivors include daughters Patsy Byrd, Kannapolis, Barbara Meadows, Edenton, Ga., and Francis Quarles, Crawford, Ga.; son Richard Arnold Benton, Watkinsville, Ga.; sisters Mrs. Darrell (Dorothy) Hampton, Concord, Mrs. Richard (Linda) Barnhardt, Mrs. Howard (Sondra) Hager, and Jaynell Rimer, all of Kannapolis; brothers John B. Benton, Greenwood, S.C., Roy R. Benton, Greenville, S.C., Rudolph Benton, Pageland, S.C., Marvin O. Benton, Panama City, Fla; and Charles R. Benton, Gold Hill; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Services: 3 p.m. Thursday, Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Buddy Hoffner. Burial at Carolina Memorial Park. Military graveside rites by Color Guard of DAV Chapter 27, Concord. Visitation: 2-3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
