Death
Howard Major Bickings, 93, of Chesterfield passed away on Friday, March 31, 2017. Born December 27, 1923, he was the son of the late Charles G. and Sarah B. Bickings, and was also preceded in death by his brothers, Mason Bickings, Charles G. Bickings, Jr.; and sisters, Margaret Creasy, Sarah Cogle, and Nell Daniels. Howard retired as a mechanic for Hercules Chemical Company after 39 years of service, and was a member of Woods United Methodist Church for over 70 years. He was a United States Army Veteran, having served during WWII. He is survived by his loving wife, Essie Taylor Bickings; son, Lawrence Howard Bickings and wife, Rose; daughter, Robin B. Furr and husband, Jim; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; special nephews, Marc Reynolds and wife, Barbara and Reed Reynolds and wife, Lynn, and their children; and numerous other nieces, nephews and extended family. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 3, 2017, at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, with the Reverend Joe Carson officiating. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3-4:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 2, 2017, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contribution may be made to Woods United Methodist Church, 7200 Hickory Road, South Chesterfield, VA 23803.Endnotes
