Death
Another old soldier went home to his reward early August 5, 2016. Mr. Howard Jackson Hummel formerly of Springfield, Missouri and most recently Santa Clarita, California, passed away Friday morning, August 5 at 4:15 am at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. Mr. Hummel was surrounded by loved ones when he closed his eyes to this life. Howard was born to Clemont Wilbur Hummel and Nellie Elvira (Stephenson) Hummel on November 6, 1916 in Webb City, Missouri. Mr. Hummel met and married the love of his life Blanche Lorraine (Babe) Belvel Hummel October 8, 1934 in Akron, Colorado. Mr. Hummel was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, his parents, three sisters, Velma Beauchamp, Helen Lee, and Betty Davis. Mr. Hummel is survived by his brother, Steve Hummel, of Colorado, four children, Shirley Colleen (Hummel) Bates, Springfield, Missouri, Sharon Louise (Hummel) Fox, Springfield, Missouri, Sandra Ilene (Hummel) Furr, Santa Clarita, California and son Daniel Lynn Hummel, Colorado. Mr. Hummel is also survived by eight granddaughters, five grandsons, twelve great-grandsons, six great-granddaughters and one great-great-granddaughter and two great-great-grandsons with one due to be born in January 2017. Mr. Hummel answered the call and volunteered to serve in the United States Army during World War II. He was stationed in the Philippines, Manilla, Okinawa and Kure, Japan. Mr. Hummel was a member of Seminole Baptist church in Springfield, Missouri and Grace Community Church in California. Mr. Hummel was a devout man of faith, he had a heart for missions and concern for the salvation of all who would accept Christ as Savior. He served his Savior until the very end of his life. Mr. Hummel enjoyed various hobbies, including hunting, fishing, woodworking, motorcycling, playing gospel music on the harmonica and guitar. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather; he loved his entire family very much. Mr. Hummel left a rich legacy of love and a true example. Most of his prayers were ended with “Help us to be what we say we are”. His favorite scripture, which he has underlined in every Bible that he has, is Ecclesiastes 12:13 and 14. “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of men. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good or whether it be evil.”Endnotes
