Burial
Funeral services for Dover L. Southard, 72, of 53 Veranda Street, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at 649 Congress Street. Interment will be in Forest City Cemetery. Mr. Southard, a retired machinist, died Tuesday in a local hospital after an illness of five weeks. He was born at Presque Isle Sept. 15, 1877, son of Silas and Augusta Southard, and came to this city three years ago. Prior to that he worked 20 years as a machinist in the stitching room of a Kennebunk shoe concern. He was a plumber and steam fitter at Ricgmond before moving to Kennebunk. He was a Mason. Besides his widow, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Hazel Hanson and Mrs. Dorothy Edison, Portland and Mrs. Natalie Furr, Charlotte, N. C.; two sons, Leslie Southard, Louisiana, and Leon Southard, Portland; three brothers Herbert and Winfield Southard Presque Isle and Theodore Southard, Winthrop; three sisters, Mrs. Eva Wersig, Portland, Conn.; Mrs. Luona Tompkins, Dover-Foxcroft, and Mrs. Bessie Curtis, Florida and several grandchildren.Portland Press Herald, January 4, 1950
