Death
Frances Wynell Chesney, age 85, of Mercury, Texas passed away Friday, August 18, 2023 at her residence in Mercury. Wynell, or “NaNa”, as she is known to her grandchildren, was born May 5, 1938 in McKinney, Texas to Willie Earl Nickerson and Dora Alene (Lafon) Nickerson. She married Clyde Ray Chesney on June 15, 1956 in Wylie, Texas. She worked as a beautician for 40 years – many of which were in her own salon – Wynell’s Beauty Shop. A lover of beauty, she very much enjoyed gardening and working with the flowers from her yard. She enjoyed traveling with Clyde in their RV, cooking and entertaining family and friends – and was very well known for her Plum Jelly, Peach Cobblers, and Pecan Pies. Some of NaNa’s most favorite times were spent with her grandchildren. Wynell was a devout Christian wife, mother, Godly Servant, and friend to all. As a member of Mercury Baptist Church, she was a Sunday School Teacher, and leader of the Women’s Mission. Clyde and Wynell moved to Mercury in 1996. Wynell was always moving and never preferred just sitting around – she was an energetic, hard worker who gave 100% of herself to everything she invested her time in. When she committed to something, you were guaranteed it would get done – and it would get done right! Funeral services for Frances Wynell Chesney will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 21, 2023 at the Mercury Baptist Church with Reverend Keith Simpson and Brother Mike Callison officiating. Interment will follow at Cowboy Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 2:00 to 4:00 at Leatherwood Memorial Chapel. Pallbearers will be Paul Furr, Matthew Furr, Cody Harbin, Robert Brown, Trae Brown, and Arnold McKinney. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gage Dunning, Raedan Brown, Jahlil Turner, and Marty Baker. Wynell is survived by her loving husband of over 67 years, Clyde R. Chesney of Mercury, Texas; daughters Jana Furr and husband Paul of Ft, Towson, OK, Tonya Harbin and partner Arnold McKinney of Mercury, TX, and Gaytha Tarver and partner Marty Baker of Brownwood, TX; sister Rosa Gonzales and husband Steve of Wills Point, TX; grandchildren Matthew Furr and wife Brandi, Heather Brown and husband Robert, Cody Harbin and wife Elia, Chesney Dunning and husband Gage, Jenna Turner and husband Justin, Jordan Tarver; and 12 great-grandchildren.
