Death
Mrs. Tommie Wilson James, age 85, of the Hardens Chapel Community, died Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at her home after an extended illness. She was born in the Rock Springs Community in Toombs County, and was a 1956 graduate of Lyons High School. She attended nursing school in Claxton, and graduated from CETA School of Nursing through Swainsboro Tech. She lived in North Carolina for several years, and while there, worked as a clothing designer for a company in New York. She also designed and made clothes for her family. She was a licensed practical nurse, and nursed many years at Meadows Memorial Hospital in Vidalia and Toombs Nursing Home in Lyons. She was a member of Hardens Chapel. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, entertaining, talking, bird watching, needlepoint, cross stitching, and making dolls and their dresses. Preceding her in death was her husband, Russell James; son, Rusty James; great-grandson, Hayes Harris; parents, Thomas Jefferson Wilson and Sarah Elizabeth Johnson Wilson; and a sister, Gail Wilson Blaxton. Her family includes three daughters, Connie James Furr and Tina James Furr of Hardens Chapel, and Shan James McRae and husband Jamie of Jesup; one sister, Metalis Wilson Joyner of Tybee Island; one brother, Gary Wilson and wife Karen of Pitts; five grandchildren, Dean Furr and wife Kristy, Micha Furr and fiancé Cliff Lewis, Whitney Harris and husband Tyler, Brooke Johnson and husband Mitch, and Cody McRae; seven great-grandchildren, Kelsey and fiancé Grant, Paige, Russ, Scout, Hendley, Atlas, and Hampton; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday morning, July 8th, from 10:00 until just prior to the service. The family will assemble at the home of a granddaughter, Whitney Harris, 2344 Aimwell Road, Vidalia. The funeral service will be Saturday, July 8th, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Mitch Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Hardens Chapel Cemetery.Endnotes
