James Everette Funderburk 'Sporty' Mr. Funderburk, 79, of Charlotte, was taken by God on Sunday, October 16, 2005, and given his long awaited and deserved day of rest. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:30 PM Tuesday, October 18, at the Wilson Chapel of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service. His funeral will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 19 at Cornerstone Baptist Church, where he was a charter member. The Rev. Eddie Thompson and the Rev. Jerry Woolery will officiate. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park, with Masonic rites. Born August 24, 1926 in Pageland, SC, Mr. Funderburk was the last surviving son of ten children born to the late Osmond and Ethel Funderburk. Upon finishing his tour of duty in the U.S. Army during World War II, he made his home in Charlotte, where he filled his life with the fascination of automobiles, new and old. His knowledge of vehicles never left a question unanswered by family and friends. He was presently employed with Tommy Price, Inc. Mr. Funderburk has been a member of the Eastgate Blue Masonic Lodge and the Oasis Temple since 1965. He was past captain of the Shriner's Rag Tops Convertible Unit. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Betty Mintz Funderburk; a daughter, Brenda F. Furr of Monroe; a son, James E. Funderburk, Jr. and his wife, Lisa, of Belmont; two grandchildren, Tim Furr and James E. Funderburk, III; and two great grandsons. We will miss his sweet smile and eyes of blue, laughter, generosity and his love for life. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, c/o Oasis Shiners, P.O.
