Death
STANFIELD -- Nell Purser Greene, 89, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at her residence. Funeral service is 11 AM Thursday, August 1, at Love's Chapel United Methodist Church, with Reverend Molly VanDerwerken and Reverend Jim White officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM tonight at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. They will assemble at the residence. Mrs. Greene was born October 28, 1912 in Stanly County, a daughter of the late Ella Ophelia Presson Purser and Lemuel Francis Purser. She was a homemaker, widow of the late Dowd Franklin Greene, Sr., and a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 260 Midland, since 1952. Mrs. Greene was also a member of Love's Chapel United Methodist Church, a member of the United Methodist Women, and had previously been selected as "Woman of the Year'. Survivors include her son, Dowd Franklin Greene, Jr. and wife, Paulette, of Stanfield, NC; daughters, Margaret Lee Greene and husband, Robert Furr, of Charlotte, NC, and Frances Vann Greene and husband, Terry Hinson, of Oakboro, NC; sisters, Louise and husband, Bobby Dennis, of Concord, and Betty Jo and husband, John Brooks, Sr. of Concord; seven grandchildren, Bartlette Furr and husband, James Compton, of Charlotte, Angela Denise Greene of Stanfield, NC, Terri Michelle Hinson of Oakboro, NC, William Robert Furr, II, and wife, Andrea, of Charlotte, NC, Terry Floyd and wife, Kena Hinson, Jr. of Mount Pleasant, NC, Beth Anne Greene and husband, William Janieri, of Albemarle, NC, and Robert Eugene and wife, Stacey Furr, of Monroe, NC; and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Guy Franklin Purser, Tom Purser and Bob Purser; and five sisters, Flossie Beatrice Little, Flora Martha Tucker, Ella Geneva Honeycutt, Maude Frances Sides and Doris Helen Austin.
