Death
Mr. Robert J. Farrell, 78, of Charlotte, died Thursday, October 3, 2002 at Carolinas Medical Center. He was born September 16, 1924, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Howard Joseph Farrell and Mary Finucan. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America, as the 2nd Pack Leader from Gesu Parish, University Heights, Ohio. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, retiring from the reserves after twenty years of service with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Upon returning from the war, Bob earned his Bachelor of Science degree from (Case) Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He later pursued graduate studies at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Rita Eline; six children, Robert J. Farrell, Jr. of Tampa, FL, wife Eileen (and their children, Bridgette Farrell-Kuzma, husband Robert, Brian, Brendan (USMC), Michael), Thomas H. Farrell of Merrimack, NH, wife Mary (and their children Erin and Sean), Megan Farrell Furr of Dublin, Ohio, Richard W. Farrell of Louisburg, NC, wife Carol, James E. Farrell of Charlotte, NC, wife Cindy (and their children Courtney and Jennifer), Moira Farrell Jacobs of Waxhaw, NC, husband Dwight (and their children Joseph and Martha); two sisters, Mary Agnes Farrell of Parma, Ohio, and Sr. Beatrice Farrell, Ursuline Order of Pepper Pike, Ohio. Bob was a long time member of Saint Gabriel's Catholic Church and enjoyed many years of golf at Carmel Country Club. The family will receive friends for 45 minutes prior to the celebration of a Memorial Mass at Saint Gabriel's Catholic Church, 3016 Providence Road, at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 7, 2002, with Rev. Christopher M. Gober, celebrant. Interment will follow immediately at the Saint Gabriel's Columbarium.
