Death
Rosemary Smith Marlowe, 69, of Lenoir, NC, passed into her eternal life on April 25, 2017 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care after a 2-year battle with ovarian cancer. As she faced all obstacles in her life, Rosemary fought this disease with courage, grace, a constant smile, and a strong faith in God. Even on days she felt the worse, Rosemary was fond of saying “I’m just one day closer to being well.” Rosemary was born on April 9, 1948 in Detroit, Michigan, and adopted as a baby by her parents Harold W. Smith and Norma Baumer Smith who predeceased her. She was also predeceased by a brother, Wade F. Smith. Rosemary was married on April 19, 1980 to Richard Marlowe at Duke Gardens sustaining a happy marriage for 37 years. She is survived by her husband, Richard; a son, Brian Marlowe and wife Jamie; two grandchildren, Jake and Emily Marlowe, all of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two aunts; two sisters-in-law; three nieces; and four grand-nephews. Rosemary is also survived by her beloved Golden Retriever, Rylee. After high school, Rosemary earned a nursing diploma at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Toledo, OH, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at UNC Chapel Hill, and a Master of Science in Nursing from UNC – Greensboro. During her career, Rosemary worked in various nursing positions at Ohio State University Hospital, UNC Memorial Hospital, Duke University Medical Center, and retired as a Nurse Case Manager from Caldwell Memorial Hospital in Lenoir in 2010. After retirement, Rosemary and Richard enjoyed travelling together – taking land tours of the Canadian Rockies, Switzerland, Paris, and London. They also enjoyed a Mediterranean Cruise as well as a Northern Europe Cruise. A Memorial Mass was offered Friday, April 28, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church conducted by Father Stephen Hoyt.Endnotes
