Death
Gary Franklin Burris passed away Monday, Aug. 8, 2022, at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Concord, April 22, 1938. He was the son of Claude and Ada McDaniel Burris. Gary was a U.S. Navy veteran and was later employed by several trucking companies in North Carolina and Florida. He attended Hartsell High School and Biscayne College. Gary was a dedicated Christian, a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather whose goal in life was to be a good provider to his family. He was a licensed pilot and loved flying, as well as sailing. He was a talented craftsman and was extremely proud of his handcrafted nativity scene he displayed in his yard at Christmas. He also enjoyed helping children create birdhouses during VBS at several churches and was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Salisbury. Mr. Burris was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia of St. Augustine, Fla.; and sister, Claudette B. Colee of Concord. Those left to cherish his memory are daughters, Susan Cooper (Kyle) of St. Augustine, Amy Furr (Bo) of Carolina Beach and Cara Latta (Barry) of Monroe; sons; Sgt. Major Erik Burris (Pam) U.S. Army, Fort Polk, La., and Charles Bradley (Stephanie) of St. Augustine; sister, Carolyn B. Williams of Concord and Marcia Ritchie of Salisbury, his companion and caregiver. Per Mr. Burris request, no services will be held; he will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 2570 St. Peters Church Rd., Salisbury, NC 28146. The Burris family wants to thank Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County for their wonderful care during this time.Endnotes
