Death
MUNDELEIN – The Reverend Jerrold Richard Swanson, of Mundelein, passed away on Thursday morning, June 23, 2022, with his wife, Sandra at his bedside. He was born on October 19, 1931, to Leslie and Myrna Swanson in Minneapolis. And subsequently lived in various parts of the Midwest throughout his career. Pastor Swanson’s life was firmly grounded in Christian ministry. Built on both Law and Gospel instilled in him at an early age, he was a graduate from Concordia College in Milwaukee and Concordia Seminary in St. Louis. His constant witness to Christ’s love and forgiveness was shared with everyone he met in the congregations where he was pastor, to the families he met while serving as a Chaplain for the Armed Forces during the Vietnam War, and by many others he encountered in his Christian walk through life. He had an undying passion for preaching, from pulpits to living rooms, and profoundly loved the Lutheran liturgy. Throughout his life, he had a creative spirit when developing new programs in the congregations he served. Jerrold had a thirst for knowledge, and loved reading with hobbies including working on a number of different handyman projects around the house and working in his computer room. Jerrold loved his family. He recently celebrated his 68th Wedding Anniversary with Sandra and was recognized for 65 years of ministry as an Ordained Pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Jerrold now joins the great cloud of witnesses of those who went before him. Living now, without him are his wife, Sandra Swanson of Mundelein; his brother Gene (Jaynelle) Swanson; four children, Wendy Haase, Heidi (Rob) Furr, Dawn (Michael) Rickman, Kurt (Marc Haupert) Swanson; grandchildren, Luke, Jacob, Sandra, Martin, Robert, Jonathan, Rebekah, Michael; and great-grandchildren, Melody, Evelyn, Aria, Emery, Brynn, Eloise. A Private Memorial Service is being held for the Immediate Family at an undisclosed time and location. Anyone wishing to express their condolences to the family may send a card to Kristan Funeral Home, 219 W. Maple Ave., Mundelein, IL 60060. The family wishes to thank the many care providers from Journey Care Hospice, Kristan Funeral Home, and Pastor Ann Gonyea for their ministry and service.Endnotes
