Notes
Death
James Weldon "Jimmy" Furr, Jr. 84 of Magnolia, Arkansas met his heavenly Father on Tuesday, July 30, 2024. After battling Parkinson's disease for almost 3 years, the fight ended when Jesus called him home. We praise the Lord that his spirit has been set free from this old body and that he now has a new, disease free body. Jimmy was born on July 11, 1940, and was a life-long resident of Magnolia. He married his bride, Dona Williams, on his 20th birthday in 1960. First Baptist Church was their church home where Jimmy served as a deacon and he and Dona taught high school seniors in Sunday School for over 20 years. Jimmy and Dona were owners and operators of Ark-La-Feed for 24 years until it closed in 1997. After the feed store closed, he worked as Director of Tobacco Control Board for the State of Arkansas and later for Columbia County DHS. Jimmy loved his hometown and was very active in the community. He served on the quorum court, the Columbia County Rural Development Authority, and various other committees in the community. God gave Jimmy a big heart. He loved others unconditionally. He wanted to please others and help them feel special. He was a people person. He never met a stranger and always said hello to anyone who crossed his path. His greatest title was "Pop" to 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and had special nick names for each. He took the time to connect with them by mailing letters and giving secret handshakes. His favorite quote from his father was "It's nice to be important, but more important to be nice." He is preceded in death by his parents James Weldon Furr, Sr. and Evelyn Gill Furr and his sister Ann Harrell of Houston, Texas. Jimmy is survived by his wife Dona Furr of Magnolia; son Wayne Furr and wife Stacy of Jacksonville, Arkansas; daughter Vicki Callaway and husband Kyle of Magnolia; sister Kay Waller of Magnolia; grandchildren, Morgan Furr Coulter and husband Caleb of Lockesburg, Arkansas, Jordan Furr of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Kaleb Callaway and wife Melissa of Forney, Texas, and Kory Callaway and wife Alyssa of Benton, Arkansas; great grandchildren, Emma Coulter, Harper Coulter, and Kimber Coulter of Lockesburg, Kami Callaway, Kora Callaway of Forney, and Kohen Callaway of Benton; brother and sister in law, J.N. and Gail Williams of Fairview, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. The family of Jimmy want to thank Arkansas Hospice and his caregivers, Chylene Mayberry, Jackie Monk, and Mashon Scott. Visitation with the family will begin at 9:00 am on Friday, August 2, 2024, at First Baptist Church with a Celebration of Life Service at 10:00 am with Bro. David Watkins and Bro. Roger Dunlap officiating under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home, Inc. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
