Death

Mr. Ronnie Kenneth Helms, age 81, of Monroe, North Carolina, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2018. Funeral Services to celebrate the life of Ronnie Helms will be conducted at 12:00 PM Thursday, July 5, 2018, at West Monroe Baptist Church, 1212 Icemorlee Street, Monroe, NC 28112. Interment will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park Cemetery, 1901 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM Thursday, at West Monroe Baptist Church, prior to the funeral ceremony. Mr. Helms was born on April 6, 1937, in Union County, North Carolina, a son of the late Grover Cleveland Helms and Arlie Belk Helms. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Penny Helms; a grandson, Travis Lynn Furr; and a brother, Mike Helms. Ronnie was a retired truck driver for McGee. He was also a US Army veteran. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Gladys Ruth Baucom Helms of Monroe; two sons, Reverend Fred Helms of Monroe, and Ronald Allen Helms of St. Augustine, FL; a daughter, Teresa Helms Price and husband Johnny Price of Matthews; two sisters, Boots Broome and husband Wade Broome of Monroe and Johnnie Jean Aycoth of Monroe. There are four grandchildren, Amanda Furr Pethel, Caleb Tyler Furr, Thomas Christopher Helms and Sarah Rebekah Helms. There are two great grandchildren, Brooklyn Nicole Pethel and Sawyer Thomas Helms.
