Viola Gettis "Granny Shag' Mrs. Gettis, age 88, lifelong resident of Charlotte, beloved wife of the late Leroy Gettis, passed away December 10, 2007. Born in Charlotte, NC on January 18, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Sim Washington and Grace Helms Gibson, Sr. She is survived by 4 children; Leon Gettis and wife Lou of Destin, FL., Joyce Ashley of Matthews, NC, Gary Gettis and wife Annette of Destin, FL and Brenda O'Daniel and husband Bobby of Charlotte, NC. She was also survived by a brother Sim Washington Gibson, Jr., numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter Dianne Furr. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 14th, 1 PM in McEwen-Derita Chapel, 6300 Mallard Creek Rd. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.
