Miss Minette Furr Becomes Bride Of Peyton E. Downey
A beautiful wedding of August 3, 1944, at 7 o’clock in the evening was that of Miss Minette Furr, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marion F. Furr of Brookhaven, Miss., to Peyton Edward Downey, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Downey of Megehee, Ark. The ceremony took place at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Logel, 569 Pine street, Pascagoula, the nuptial vows being spoken before an improvised altar of white gladioli, feverfew and tuberoses, with white tapers in two seven-branched candela bras for lighting. The service was conducted by the Rev. Eugene W. Ulmer, pastor of the First Methodist church of Pascagoula with the bride’s brother, Aylward Furr giving her in marriage. The attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wesley Teel, serving as best man and matron of honor, respectively. A street length dinner gown of powder blue with fuschia gloves and a hat in blue and fuschia was worn by the bride, whose flowers were a double shoulder corsage of sweetheart roses and tuberoses. The matron of honor wore a dinner gown in street length, in pale pink, with contrasting accessories. Her flowers were a corsage arrangement in pastel shades. The groom and his attendant wore boutonnieres from the bride’s bouquet. Alter the ceremony the guests were invited to the dining room where the traditional wedding cake with its miniature bride and groom held central place on the table with its handsome drapery of Irish linen, and decorations of gladioli and other flowers. When the cake had been cut by Mrs. Downey, it was served with punch by Mrs. Logel handsome in black with white lace, who presided over the punch bowl with its wreathing of clematis. Potted plants also added beauty to the home. Following the reception Mr. and Mrs. Downey departed for a short honeymoon at an unrevealed destination. On their return the early part of the week they will take up residence in Pascagoula where the groom is superintendent of Department 17 at Ingalls Ship building Corporation. Among the guests attending the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. Howard Furr and Miss Bernita Furr.
