Death
John “Jack” Spellings Everett, Jr. passed away peacefully in his sleep with his family by his side on February 19, 2021 at his home in Collierville, TN. Jack was born December 20, 1939 to John Spellings Everett, Sr. and Marjorie Craig Everett. Jack attended Collierville High School and then Lambuth University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Math. He also attended Tennessee Tech University before moving back to the area to teach at Memphis University School. He earned his Master’s Degree from Louisiana State University in 1966. After graduating from LSU he worked for IBM designing early mainframe computer programs for banks. He started his banking career in Cleveland, TN where he made lifelong friends. He returned to his hometown of Collierville in 1979 to become President and CEO of Collierville Savings and Loan (The Bank.) During his banking career, he was instrumental in opening and acquiring several banks in the mid-south area. He retired as President and CEO from BankTennessee in 2001. Teaching was one of Jack’s passions throughout his life and after retiring from banking he taught at Collierville High School and the University of Phoenix. Additionally, he was a volunteer math tutor to many students over the years. Many remember Jack as a truly kind and humble man, always first to open the door and the last to leave, ever ready to lend a hand and cheer others on. He was a true example of a servant leader, striving to put others first and never wanting the spotlight for himself. He volunteered his time wherever he went and was honored to serve on the Cleveland School Board, as a Collierville Alderman, in administrative roles at several churches, and as a member of the Collierville Police Chief’s Citizens Advisory Board. While Jack held many titles over the years, his favorites were husband, father, son, brother, friend, and “pop.” It was these relationships that Jack cherished most. He was happiest spending time traveling with friends and family, playing golf, tennis, bridge and of course, a mean game of “HORSE” in the driveway. As a father and grandfather, Jack was hands on, cooking, playing, chauffeuring, attending every sporting event he could and being everyone’s biggest fan. Friends and family could always count on Jack to tell the same silly stories, laugh at the same inside jokes and offer up a high five or a “woo doggies!” Jack was predeceased by his parents and is survived by his wife of 29 years Dawn Everett; children, John Everett III (Corey Chism), Greg Everett (Holly), Sara Ford (Ben), Brooke Greene (Jeremy), Tyler Muesch (Amy) and Hannah Furr (Andrew); grandchildren Cate, Benjamin and Amelia Ford, Everett, Emery and Molly Greene and Max and Jude Muesch; sisters Margie Craig Nelson (Brian) and Ruth Ellen “Fel” Morrison (Jimmy). A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at 4:30 pm at Collierville United Methodist Church, 454 W Poplar Ave, Collierville, TN 38017. The service will also be livestreamed at Collierville Funeral Home Facebook Page. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to MIFA (Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association) or the Memphis Zoo.Endnotes
