Death
William Floyd “Bill” Coley, 85, passed away in Atrium Health Cabarrus Hospital in Concord on 29 November 2023. Born in Concord, he was a son of Clegg W. Coley and Flonnie B. (Greene) Coley and the devoted husband of the late Gaye F. (Shoe) Coley for over 62 years until her passing in 2020. After graduating from Hartsell High School, he worked at Mastercraft Fabrics as a supervisor in the shipping department, retiring in 2000. He was always joyful and as a teenager loved to play games in his back yard, especially croquet, with siblings and neighborhood friends. As a youth and adult, he liked to play board and card games with members of his family. An enthusiastic player of horseshoes, he won a number of tournaments and helped establish a horseshoe area at a park in Harrisburg. He especially liked vacations with his family in his camper in Myrtle Beach, and he and his family also enjoyed cruises and travels to Europe and China. After his retirement he entertained residents of retirement communities with his excellent interpretations of Country and Western singers. As a fan of Andy Griffith, he enjoyed a tour of Mt. Airy on a recent birthday. He was a member of Forest Hill Methodist Church. Two daughters survive him: Lisa Coley Hargett of Mooresville and Tonda Coley Edwards of Kannapolis, both of whom he shared a home with for the last few years. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Brandon Furr and wife Amy of Houston, TX, Bryan Furr and wife Megan of Kannapolis, Brittany Overcash of Huntersville, and Joshua Overcash of Charlotte; four great-grandchildren: Elena and Clarice Furr of Houston, TX, and Madelyn and Elijah Furr of Kannapolis. Preceding him in death was his sister, Ella Ruth Coley Smith of Concord, and surviving is his brother, Robert E. Coley of Lancaster, PA. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Sunday, December 3, 2023 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. The funeral service will be on Monday at 1:00 pm at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord officiated by Josh Kurtz. Burial will follow at the Carolina Memorial Park Kannapolis at Hwy. 29N at I85, Exit 58, Concord.
