Death

It is with profound sadness that Chester Glenn Allen Saurborn, 98, of 3075 Woodway Road, Roanoke passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at his home. He was the loving husband of Lorene Bailey Saurborn. He was born July 25, 1924 in Marion County, WV, a son of the late William Saurborn and Edna Maye Reeves White. He was a member of Hurt United Methodist Church, a retired employee of Kolpman, a proud U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and a proud member of the Altavista Life Saving Crew. He is survived by two daughters, Nora Furr of Roanoke, and Patricia Harrison and her husband, Jeff of Salem; one grandchild, Rusty Howell and his wife, Angie of Knoxville, TN; two great grandchildren, Grant and Bryce Howell; and special friends Faye George and Val Nakdimen. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lorene Bailey Saurborn. He was a loving husband and father. He will live on in the hearts of those that knew and loved him. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 17, 2023 at Gretna Burial Park, by the Rev. David Bayse with military honors by American Legion Altavista Memorial Post 36 and Gretna Post 232. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m., Monday at Finch & Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista.
