Notes
Death
Don Furr, 82, of Blue Springs, Missouri passed away March 13th surrounded by family. There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, June 14th from 2-6pm at The Gamber Community Center, 4 SE Independence Ave., Lee's Summit, MO 64063. Don was born September 27, 1942 in Kansas City, Missouri. He graduated from Center High School in 1960, went to college at CMSU in Warrensburg and then joined the Army Reserves. He worked at Western Electric for several years until he went on to be the 3rd generation in the oriental rug business at Macy's, downtown. From there, he and his father started Furr's Oriental Rugs in 1975 where he worked until he retired. He and his father built and owned 2 sprint cars that won a lot of trophies and championships over the years. His trophies, pictures and plaques from those racing years are being donated to the Sprint Car Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Iowa to be shared with visitors for years to come. When he was done racing cars, he took up flying hot-air balloons. He loved taking people up in the air to enjoy the peace and quiet while floating along whichever way the wind was blowing. He was an avid sports fan; he loved the Kansas City Chiefs and was probably one of the most loyal Kansas City Royal's fans of all time. He truly believed that every year was going to be their year. Win or lose, he loved them. He watched all MU and KU sports and had recently started to follow the KC Current Women's soccer team. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin Richard & Ruby Lillian Furr, granddaughter Shelbi Lynn Landsverk, and his niece Melissa Diane Kingsley. He is survived by his three sisters, Jan & David Hall, Teri Mars, and Becky & Bob Harris, his two daughters Donna Furr and Ginger Furr & Brandy Williams; his step-children Susan Hamilton, Sherri & Bruce Landsverk, Shannon & Wes McCain, Bob & Stephanie Hamilton, Bill & Lesli Hamilton; and their mother Jeanne Furr. He had eight grandchildren: Samantha, Jessica, Michael, Alissa, Ryan, Jason, Olivia, and Ashlyn; 2 great-grandchildren: Lucy and Luna; four nieces and two nephews and multiple great nieces and nephews. He had lifelong friendships and will really be missed by everyone that knew him, he will be especially missed by his little dog Spike and his cat, Miss Kitty. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to your local food pantry or animal shelter.Endnotes
