Death
Charles D. Exum, widely-known cotton buyer of Tupelo, Miss., formerly connected with J. D. Gabel & Co. of Memphis, died at 11 a.m. yesterday at his suburban home near Tupelo. He was 60. Mr. Exum moved to Tupelo from Memphis in 1925 and continued to represent Gabel & Co, there several years before going into the cotton buying business for himself. He had become one of the largest dealers in the North Mississippi section. He was born at West Point, Miss., the son of Mrs. Jennie Anderson Exum and the late Charles Dewitt Exum. He was a member of First Baptist Church and was active in civic and business circles at Tupelo. He leaves his wife of Tupelo; his daughter, Miss Frances Exum of Memphis; his mother, who was making her home with him in Tupelo, and his brother, Lawrence C. Exum of Marshall, Ark. Services at Pegues Funeral Home at Tupelo at 4 p.m. today, Rev. H. R. Holeomb and Dr. Frank Powell officiating.
