Death
Marion M. Furr, 91, of Modesto died Wednesday at Doctors Medical Center, Mrs. Furr was a native of Oakland. She lived in Modesto 42 years. She was a psychiatric nurse 40 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Modesto and American Red Cross Nursing Service. She is survived by her children, John McMullin of Castro Valley, Phyl Stover of Modesto and Carolyn Richard of Florida; and 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Lakewood Memorial Park. A memorial service will follow at 11:30 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church. Marion Margaret Furr, 91, of Modesto died Wednesday at Doctors Medical Center. Mrs. Furr was a native of Oakland, California, having lived In Modesto since 1956. A Registered Nurse, she graduated from Fabiola Hospital School of Nursing, Oakland, CA, in 1927. During her early career she was employed as a Registered Nurse and a Supervisor of Surgical Nurses in Oakland and Berkeley area Hospitals. During World War II she was employed by Kaiser Ship Yard, Richmond, CA, as Supervisor of Emergency Surgery. She was later employed as Surgery Supervisor at Mark Twain Hospital, San Andreas, and by the California State Mental Hospitals as a Psychiatric Nurse and Surgery Supervisor including Senior Psychiatric Nurse at Modesto State Hospital, She retired after a 40 year career in the nursing profession. She was a member of The American Red Cross Nursing Service, a former member of The Fabiola Hospital Nurses Alumni Assoc., and of the Stanislaus County Humane Society. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Modesto, since 1972. She will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends at her church to whom she was a constant source of Christian encouragement and inspiration. She is survived by her children Phyl Stover of Modesto, Carolyn Richard of Lady Lake, FL., and John McMullin of Casto Valley, CA, ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild, Remembrances may be made to First Baptist Church, POB 4309, Modesto, CA 95352.
