Notes
Death
A young mother was killed early yesterday when a car driven by her husband crashed into a rock wall on Asbury Rd. The victim, Mrs. Nancy C. Furr, 22, was dead on arrival at University Hospital, shortly after 3 a.m. An autopsy showed she died of a broken neck, according to Dr. Glenn Watts, assistant county medical examiner. The husband, Sammie Furr, told The News-Sentinel that Saturday night was their fifth wedding anniversary and that they had been out riding. He said they had parked behind Asbury School to talk and were on their way home when the accident occurred. The Furr home is on Asbury Rd. He said his brakes failed and he crashed into a wall. He said he thought the accident occurred about 1:15. “I must have blacked out,” Mr. Furr said. “When I came to I staggered to a nearby house for help.” Kent County officers said they found Mr. Furr in the wreck unclothed. Mr. Furr was admitted to University Hospital but was released last night. He said he had a broken arm, broken nose, broken ribs, facial lacerations, and eye injury and internal injuries. The accident happened in front of Asbury Methodist Church. Besides her husband, Mrs. Furr leaves two daughters; and parents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Covington. Services will held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Roberts’ Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be in Asbury Cemetery. The Knoxville News-Sentinel, Knoxville, Tennessee, March 4, 1968
