Weaverville - Rev. H. Wendell Brittain, age 87 of Brank Cove Road, died Friday, November 16, 2018. Wendell was born April 2, 1931 in Buncombe County to the late Verona and Lula Cole Brittain. Rev. Brittain received a degree in music theory and a master's in theology. For 47 years he was involved in Methodist Ministry, pastoring 15 churches and was also Minister of Music and Bell Choir Director at Salem United Methodist Church. He was versatile in playing numerous musical instruments and incorporated his talent into his ministry. A veteran of the U.S. Army; he served 17 months in Germany as a scout dog trainer. He enjoyed oil painting, cooking, writing poetry, being outdoors, singing, composing and even produced several CD's. He sang in 35 out of 47 productions of Handels Messiah in Weaverville. Christmas was his favorite time of year and he always made it special for his family. Surviving are his daughters, Wendy Spainhour and husband Todd and Cara Furr; brother, Rev. Dr. Robert Brittain and wife Lurline Cope Brittain; grandchildren, Crystal Moor and husband Mitchel, Dillon Furr, and Madeline, Natalie and Eleanor "Elle" Spainhour; great grandson, Caius Moor. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2018 in Salem United Methodist Church. Rev. Kent Smith and Rev. Dr. Tim Brittain will officiate. Burial will be in Clark's Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, November 26, 2018 at West Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
