Death

Rayford Milton Yow, 89 years of age, of Stanfield, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2017 in Stanfield. Rayford was born December 23, 1927 in Stanly County to the late Daniel Monroe Yow and the late Eliza Jane Yow. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Clontz Yow; three brothers; and five sisters. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Friday, July 21, 2017 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. The funeral service will be on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Love's Grove United Methodist Church, 4360 Polk Ford Road, Stanfield officiated by Rev. Jim White. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Survivors include daughters, Vickie Gail (Donnie) Harward and Sherry Dianne (Bruce) Daniels of Stanfield; grandchildren, Amy Floyd, Ashley (Jennie)Furr, April (Kevin)Athey, Matthew (Jen) Daniels, Paige (Khang) Nguyen; great grandchildren, Abby Floyd, Trinity Athey, Sydney Athey, Mason Furr and Eliana Nguyen. Rayford worked at Cannon Mills and Allison Manufacturing. He was a member of Love's Grove United Methodist and was involved in the choir for years singing, playing the guitar and mandolin, participating in the Praise Band from its beginning and was honored for 45 years of service in 2011 by his church for his music ministry. Rayford was an accomplished bluegrass mandolin musician in Stanly County and also participated in the music ministry for the Stanly County Prison. His favorite place to eat was Rocky River Springs Fish House. Memorials may be made to Love's Grove United Methodist Building Fund, P.O. Box 276, Stanfield, NC 28163.
