Death

CONCORD- Mr. Charles L. Blackwelder, 79, of 315 Roberta Rd., passed away Thursday, July 3, 2008 at Hospice House of Cabarrus County. A visitation will be held Saturday, July 5 from 2 until 4 p.m. at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 4 p.m. at Hartsell's Funeral Home. Rev. Craig Scott will officiate. Internment will take place at West Concord Cemetery in Concord. The family will meet at the home located at 315 Roberta Rd., Concord. Charles was born in Wilmington Oct. 10, 1928 to the late Rev. Henry Thomas Blackwelder and the later Ellen (Deaton) Blackwelder. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the Young Memorial Baptist Church in Concord. He is preceded in death by his stepson Olin Furr, three brothers and two sisters. Charles is survived by his wife Ruth Blackwelder of Concord, stepsons Larry Furr and wife Janice of Midland, Jerry Furr and wife Pat of Alabama, Bobby Furr and wife Star of Gold Hill; Ricky Furr and wife Janie of Mount Pleasant, Dennis Furr and wife Teresa of Mount Pleasant; stepdaughter Joyce Foster and husband Larry of Marion and Tonda Green and husband Doug of Concord; 22 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County 5003 Hospice Lane Kannapolis, NC 28081. Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord is assisting the family.
