Death

Sarah Elizabeth Johnson Smith, 74, of Matthews, NC, passed away due to pancreatic cancer on December 5, 2016, at Novant Health Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. Sarah was born in Jefferson, SC, on April 16, 1942, to the late Russell and Nell Johnson. She was also preceded in death by sister, Ila Sue Reese. Sarah was loving and devoted to her family and friends. She was an avid member of First Baptist Church Charlotte. Sarah was a faithful servant of God and made thinking of other people first and giving to others a top priority. She was also a true prayer warrior and had a passion for gardening and flowers. Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Jerry Smith; daughter, Stacy Furr (Robert); grandsons, Garrett Smith and Matthew Furr; sister, Edith Roper; brothers, John and Dwight Johnson; seven nieces; six nephews, and numerous great nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 12 - 2pm, Saturday, December 10, 2016, at First Baptist Church Charlotte. A funeral service will immediately follow. Burial will be in Sharon Memorial Park.
