CONCORD - Mr. Shirley Franklin Brown Sr., 85, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007 surrounded by his wife of 64 years and his children. He died at Heritage at Town Center, Harrisburg. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, at Hartsell Funeral Home-Concord. The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel-Concord with the Rev. Randy Ardis officiating. Burial will be at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis. Military rites will be performed by the DAV Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Brown was born Jan. 3, 1922 in Cabarrus County the son of the late James Brown and Margaret (Readling) Brown. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in World War II. He retired as an Equipment Supervisor from Concord Telephone Company. He was a member of Bible Presbyterian Church of Charlotte, where he was an Elder for 50 years and church treasurer for 25 years. He was instrumental in the formation of the Jackson Park Sanitary District of Concord. Survivors include his wife, Rossetta (Clark) Brown of Concord; sons, Frank Brown of Greenville and George Brown of Harrisburg; daughters, Martha (Brown) Furr of Kannapolis and Loree (Brown) Phelps of Charlotte; sister, Louise King of Harrisburg. The family meeting place will be the home at 110 Stonecrest Circle, Concord. Memorials may be made to Bible Presbyterian Church of Charlotte, 6237 Rumple Road Charlotte, NC 28262.
