Death
Jefferson Whatley Davis, Sr., age 94, passed away Thursday, October 15, 2015 in Montgomery, AL where he grew up. He graduated as the valedictorian from Barnes School for Boys in Montgomery, AL, then went on and graduated from The University of Alabama, where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He also served his country in the Navy during WWII. He was an active member of The First United Methodist Church, where he served in many capacities. We would like to send a special thanks to The Tower Class for all their thoughts, cards, and prayers. He loved God and his country. He had many friends whom he loved dearly. He was an avid golfer and lifelong member of The Rotary Club. He was a loving and compassionate husband to his wife of 68 years. He was a devoted father and grandfather and he will be missed. Survivors include his wife, Mary F. Davis; children, Jeff W. Davis, Jr., Betsy Davis (Michael) Prince, John A. (Donna) Davis; grandchildren, Davis (Leah) Prince, Mary Beth Prince (John) Hawkins, Caroline Davis, John (Bry) Davis, Jr., and three great grandchildren. The family will receive visitors on Monday, October 19, at 11:00 AM followed by a celebration of life at 12:00 PM at The First United Methodist Church with Dr. Lawson Bryan and Dr. Karl Stegall officiating. A graveside service will follow at Greenwood Cemetery with Leak Memory Chapel directing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Karl Stegall Seminary Scholarship Foundation or to the First United Methodist Church of Montgomery, AL.Endnotes
