Will H. Bartlett, 63, passed away on April 27, 2015 at his home in Alamogordo, New Mexico after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on September 17, 1951 in Alamogordo. Will attended Alamogordo High School then joined the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1977. He pursued a college education at NMSU where he graduated with a B.A. in Theatre Arts in 1980. His love of the theatre lead him to New York in 1984 where for the next few years he held management positions with three theatre companies. In 1988 Will was employed by New York University in the department of film, video and broadcasting and he held this position until 2007. He then returned to Alamogordo where he served at NMSU-A as an adjunct professor in both the theatre and art departments. His pleasant demeanor and professional expertise endeared him to everyone he came in contact with, whether in the theatre or in the classroom. One of his proudest accomplishments was his writing of an original play which was performed in NYC and copy written in 1985. Survivors include his daughters Lebra Howard and Lori Furr of Alamogordo, son Jeff Powell of Clayton, North Carolina, brother John Bartlett of Alamogordo, sisters Barbara (David) Benedict of Supulpa, Oklahoma, Diane Weller of Boulder, Colorado, and Margaret (Chris) McCarthy of Arlington, Texas, grandchildren Mark Alan Najar, Michael Levi Howard, Anthony Powell, Amity Furr, Melissa Powell and Alyssa Powell, great-grandchildren Brandon Campbell, Zachary Howard and Jason Najar. Will was preceded in death by his mother Marilyn Bostic, father Dr. Martin Bartlett, sister Deborah Ackerman and granddaughter Angela Sage Van Cleave. The family wishes to express gratitude to Ruth Mikesell of Alamogordo for her tireless effort as a caretaker and devoted friend. Thanks also goes out to the faculty and friends at NMSU-A for their support during his illness. Will's unique personality and sense of humor will be sorely missed by family and friends that knew and loved him. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, May 29, 2015 at Monte Vista Cemetery. Refreshments will follow at the Protech building on the NMSU-A campus from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Will and his family request donations be made to Kitty City, 56 Danley Ranch Rd., Alamogordo, NM 88310. The Bartlett family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation has taken place at PCS.Endnotes
