Death
CONCORD - Hughes L. Maxwell, 88, of 35 McArthur Ave., Concord, died Friday, Oct. 7, 2005, at his home. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Covenant Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Scott Simpson will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis. Military graveside rights will be conducted by DAV Chapter 27. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Monday at Covenant Presbyterian Church. At other times the family will be at the home. Born Nov. 6, 1916, in Cabarrus County, he was a son of the late Martin Luther Maxwell and Fannie Elizabeth (Little) Maxwell. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army who fought during World War II and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He was a mechanic for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife, Jewel (Furr) Maxwell, of the home; daughter, Marilyn (Maxwell) Lelli and husband, Anthony, of South Euclid, Ohio; sister, Viola Maxwell, of Newport News, Va.; grandchildren, Katherine Marie Lelli, Anna Christine Lelli and Anthony Maxwell Lelli; and a host of nieces and nephews.
