Death

John Moile “J.M.” Cudworth, 81, of Wanchese, died Thursday, April 3, 2014, in his residence. “J.M.” was born in Wanchese and was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church.  He was a retired Captain with Maritrans Towing Co., after 37 years.  “J.M.” was a popular local musician, singing with several country music bands most notably, the “String Dusters”.  He served his country honorably in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was predeceased by his parents, John Moile and Alma Etheridge Cudworth and was the husband of 62 years to Hettie Tillett Cudworth. In addition to his wife, surviving are three daughters, Connie Cudworth Bateman and husband, Mitchell of Wanchese, Cammie Cudworth Daniels and husband, Chris of Hampton, VA and Katie Cudworth Furr and husband, Andy of Wilmington, NC; one son, J. Cudworth of Manteo; two sisters in law, Rose Hewitt Setzer and Eleanor Tillett Meekins; grandchildren, Stephen Bateman, Justin Bateman, Heidi Swanson, Carmen Allen, Madison Cudworth, Christian Cudworth,  Drew Furr, Landon Furr, and Daniel Furr; and great granddaughter, Kaylee Rose Swanson.  “J.M.” was also predeceased by his sisters, Rhoda Ballance, Camilla Farrow, Rebecca Gollobin, Inis Hayden and Ruth Cudworth and two brothers, John Cudworth and Murray Cudworth. A celebration of life will be in Bethany United Methodist Church, Sunday, April 6, 2014, at 4:00 p.m. by Rev. Dr. Jerome Smith, Rev. David Daniels and Rev. Kenny Midgett. Burial will be in Cudworth Cemetery. Friends may join the family at Twiford Funeral Home Saturday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  Twiford Funeral Home, Manteo, NC is assisting the family with arrangements.
