Death
Emil Miller passed away peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on October 5, 2013. He was born in Linton, North Dakota on October 19, 1919 to August and Katherina (Huber) Miller. Emil went through grade school, then worked as a farm hand with his father and other farmers until he went into the service, during World War II. Emil served in the Army Air Corp in the Signal Battalion as a lineman for the telephone and telegraph. He was stationed in the South Pacific, New Guinea and the Philippines and was awarded the Bronze Service Arrowhead, the American Theatre Service Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal with a Bronze Service Star and the Good Conduct Medal. He was proud of his Military Service. After discharge from the Service he met the love of his life Pauline Liebig. They were married in 1947 and celebrated their 66th year Anniversary in March of this year. Emil worked as a Supervisor for Spiekerman Concrete Pipe Company for 26 years. He then started his own business, Miller Trenching Service, and retired in 1989. Emil was an active member of Zion Reformed Church, and American Legion Post 22, where he received his 50th year member award, and the Foresters. In his lifetime, he was an active member of the Dakota Club, Lodi Boat Club, Delta Sea Ray Boat Club, Lodi Elks Club, LodiMoose Club, Lodi Trailer Club, and Early Day Gas Engines Chapter 13. Emil enjoyed boating, fishing, operating his John Deer Engines, playing cards, dancing (Polka), traveling in his motor home, and spending time with his family. Emil is survived by his wife Pauline, three daughters, Shirley Mosher (Richard), Kathy Butler (David), and Debbie Furr, six granddaughters, DeAnn Reyes (Randy), Judi DeSomber, Heather Butler, Nicole Butler Hay, AuD (Alex), Angela Furr, Sharnell Furr, eight great grandchildren, brother Calvin Miller (Frieda), sisters, Amanda Semenza, Hilda Miller, Wilma Weber, Eleanor Maier, and several nieces and nephews. Emil is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Melvin, Edwin, August and Delmar, and son-in-law Bill Furr. There will be a viewing on Thursday October 10, from 10:00am to 5:00pm, at Lodi Funeral Home. Service will be held Friday October 11, at 1:00pm, at Zion Reformed Church, with Pastor Matthew Duerr officiating, followed by the graveside service at Cherokee Memorial Cemetery.
