Death

Eddie Dean Stephens, age 70, of Newton, NC passed away after a lengthy illness on Monday, April 08, 2013 at Abernathy Laurels in Newton. Born June 15, 1942 Caldwell County, he was the son of the late Ivey Russell and Ruth Brown Stephens. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was a veteran of the United States Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Loretta Stephens. Eddie is survived by his wife, of 46 years, Elaine Piercy Stephens of the home; a son, Todd R. Stephens and fiancée, Barbara Fredrick of Belmont; a daughter, Tina Furr and husband, Brad of Newton and grandchildren, Russell L. Stephens, Paige and Alex Furr. A service of remembrance will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Rev. Rudy A. DeRosa will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:30 p.m. until 2:45 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2448 Emmanuel Church Rd., Conover, NC 28613.
