Death
Will of John Lowrance was written 04 November 1834 and filed in Iredell County, North Carolina on 24 February 1835. First, I commit my soul to God who gave it, and my body to be buried in a decent and Christian manner, and that all my just debts be paid. I will that my beloved wife Martha Lowrance have a part and interest in the house where I now live and the use of my Negro girl Lise, and that she have a comfortable support and maintenance out of my crop and stock for one year, and the use of the household property not hereafter named. Also I will her the grey mare Fly, her saddle, two cows and calves, and that she have the disposal of a child's part of the property that is to be sold at her death. I will and bequeath to my daughter Martha Rose the Negro girl Rose and her child Andy, which she has. Fourth, I will that Thomas Steele have the direction and control of the part of my estate that I hereafter will to go to the support of my son Joseph L Lowrance, and that he use his judgment and prudence in giving it as he needs it. Fifth, I will that my executors put my Negro woman Orrac (?) in the care of my daughter Sinthy Hart and that she be humanely used and that she be not sold contrary to her consent, and that Sinthy has got her part in Negro property. Sixth, I will and bequeath to my daughter Esther Long the Negro girl Caroline and her children that she has. Seventh, I will and bequeath to my daughter Polly Furr the Negro girl Hareat she has. Eighth, I will that my executors see that my daughter Sinthy and John Hart have the use of the land that I purchased from John Barkley during their natural lives. I will said land to my executors to oappropriate it wholy to the use of John and Sinthy Hart during their lives, and that at their death to be divided equally amongst their children, that is, the children of John and Sinthy Hart. Ninth, I will and bequeath to my son John A. Lowrance the plantation he lives on that I purchased from Charles Downs, with the reservation of that fresh land last cleared on the south side of the plantation and the plan we intend to clear for three years. And my negro boy Levi. Tenth, I will and bequeath to my son Milas Lowrance the plantation I now live on and the use of my Negro man Prince during the life of my widow and at her death Prince to be sold. But that he shall have the privilege to choose his master and that he be not put to public sale and the proceeds of the sale to be divided amongst my children. Also, I will that my son Milas Lowrance support and maintain his mother in a decent and comfortable manner for the use of Prince. I also will my son Milas Lowrance my Negro boy Mitton and at the death of his mother, I will to my son Milas my Negro girl Lise, the grey horse Fly, and his saddle and bridle, one bed and furniture, one cow and calf. Also, that he purchase a two-horse wagon and that it paid for out of my estate, and that the old grey horse be kept on the plantation. And that my son Milas Lowrance pay $200 that is due from me to Charles Downs and to assist him in paying this debt, I will him a note due me from Thomas Steele for $73, and 3 ploughs. Lastly, I will that the property not within willed (horses, cattle, hogs, sheep, corn, cotton, hay, farming tools, waggon, etc. to be sold and the proceeds to be equally divided amongst my children Marta Rose, Joseph L. Lowrance, Sinthy Hart, Esther Long, Polly Furr, John A. Lowrance, Milas Lowrance. And I hereby make and ordain my son Milas Lowrance and my son-in-law William Rose executors of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I, the said Lowrance, have to this my last will and testament set my hand and seal the day and year above written.Signed, sealed, published in the presence of John W. Gray, Jurat and John N. Lowrance, Jurat.
