Death

Joyce Elizabeth Cole Furr, 72, of Carrollton, died Thursday, March 29, 2012, at her residence. She was born in Carroll County on August 15, 1939, the daughter of the late William Wofford Cole and the late Luna Elizabeth Lyle Cole. She lived her entire lifetime in this area and was a Licensed Practical Nurse, working for Tanner Medical Center for about thirty years and then as a private nurse for Dr. J. Larry Boss until he retired. She retired from the medical profession in 2006. She was a member of the retired nursing association, absolutely loved to "cut grass", grow beautiful flowers, had a fondness for cats and took in homeless strays, and loved to deliver babies. She had a very close relationship with her nieces and nephews and enjoyed introducing them to old time rock and roll music. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Furr, two sisters, Julia Arlene Cole and Frances Cole Davies and two brothers, Thomas Henry Cole and Fred Harold Cole. Survivors include two sisters, Betty Sue Capes of Carrollton and Jean Matthews of Villa Rica; one brother, John William Cole of Carrollton, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, April 1, 2012, at 2:00 P.M. from the chapel of the J. Hoyt Thomas Funeral Home with Dr. Joe Tanner officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Villa Rica. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday evening, March 31, 2012, from 5:00-7:00 P.M..
