MIDLAND - Martha Marie Carpenter Barbee, 63, of 9100 Hwy 601, died Friday Dec. 12, 2003, at her home. The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel in Midland. The Rev. Gary Clouse will officiate. Burial will follow at Howell’s Baptist Church Cemetery in Concord. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Hartsell Funeral Home in Midland. At other times they will be at the residence in Midland. Born Sept. 21, 1940, in Cabarrus County, she was the daughter of the late Fred Weird Carpenter and Vida Eller Irby. She was a preboarder for Craftsman Hosiery Mill. Survivors include her husband, R.W. Barbee Jr. of the home; a son, Billy Wayne Barbee of Chester, S.C.; two daughters, Martha Ann Caudill of Midland andSynthia Renay Furr of Concord; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland is in charge of arrangements.
