Death
LEXINGTON – Julia Knight Furr, 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at the home of daughter, Margaret. Julia was born December 2, 1927 in Chesterfield, South Carolina to the late Baxter S. Knight and Rosa Lee Gordon Knight. She is survived by her four sons, Bill Furr of Orangeburg; Jim and Patricia Furr of Columbia; Tom and Jan Furr of Orangeburg; Robert Allen and Melody Furr of Cummings, GA; and pre-deceased by son, Daniel Furr formerly of Columbia; and daughters, Karen and Matt McLauren of Chapin; Kathy Ard of Gaston; Earline and David White of Columbia; and Margaret and Kenny Branham of Gaston; and forever her daughter-in-law, Toodie Hughes of Johnston. Julia is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Julia worked for the General Electric and Philips Components plant in Irmo for 29 years as a Secretary/Customer Service Specialist. Following her retirement, Julia worked as a Secretary for her church, Lexington Church of Christ, for 11 years and then volunteered at the front desk of Lexington Urgent Care for 3 years. In 1966, Julia's children made the front page of the State newspaper with a group picture of her six youngest, one being in each grade at Fanny McCants Elementary School. Visitation will be at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, 503 North Lake Drive, Lexington, SC on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services to be held at Lexington Church of Christ, 101 Ball Park Road, Lexington, SC at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 16, 2011, followed by graveside services in Woodridge Memorial Park, Corley Mill Road, Lexington, SC. In lieu of flowers, Julia's family requests that donations should be made to Lexington Church of Christ, 101 Ball Park Road, Lexington, SC 29072.Endnotes
