Death

CONCORD Mrs. Jessie B. Duke of Cameron Ave., Concord, went to meet her Savior Sunday, June 5, 2011 at CMC-NorthEast. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 7 at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel officiated by the Rev. Perry Lemmonds. Burial followed at Carolina Memorial Park. The family received friends from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Jessie was born Jan. 11, 1923 in Robeson County to the late Austin and Blennie Stone Barnes. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Howard W. Duke; daughters, Elva Willshaw and Nancy Prince and five brothers and sisters. She retired from Cannon Mills, the Gibson Mill location. Jessie was a member of Royal Grace Bible Church, loved gardening and yard work and keeping up with neighborhood activities. She was a sweet, kind-hearted person who very much loved her best friend "Buddy". Her family was always first in her heart. Jessie is survived by daughters, Star D. Furr and her husband, Bob of Gold Hill; Pat D. Cook of Concord; and Rose Monroe of Texas; sons, Ed Duke and his wife, Trudy, and Charles Duke and his wife, Jackie, all of Concord. She also left 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Royal Grace Baptist Church, 305 Burrage Rd. NE, Concord, NC 28025.
