Death
Norton, Raymond C. Jr., 90 of Phoenix and formerly of St Joseph Missouri, died May 5, 2011 at Coronado Home Hospice of the Valley. Raymond was born in St. Joseph Missouri on October 13, 1920 to Mr. and Mrs. R.C. Norton. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp in June of 1943, and served with the Ninth Marine Aircraft Wing, Fleet Marine Force in the Northern Solomon Islands, and was discharged at Quantico VA in June of 1946. He married Marianne Owens on December, 14, 1946. Marianne died August 22, 1995. He is survived by his three children Herbert (Julie) of Hudson Colorado, James (Cherie) of Lone Tree Colorado, and Katharine Ann (Les) Christians of Phoenix; a brother Robert (Geri) Norton of St Joseph Missouri. Raymond married Lois Furr on September 8, 2004. Lois and her children, Debra (James) Baugh of Mesa AZ and Nancy (David) Hendrickson of Riverton Utah also survive Raymond. Lois' son Craig Furr preceded him in death. Raymond is also survived by15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren between the families. Mr. Norton was a devoted member of the Cross in the Desert United Methodist Church in Phoenix, the Paradise Valley Silver Trowel Lodge No 29 F. & A.M. in Phoenix, and the Moila Shrine Temple in St Joseph, Missouri. He worked in Management for the Swift Packing Company in the By Products Division for 45 years, retiring in 1986. His favorite pastime was horses, horseracing and people associated with them. The funeral service will be at 10AM on Monday May 9th at Cross in the Desert United Methodist Church, 12835 N 32nd St. Burial will follow at Paradise Memorial Gardens.
