Death
John F. Pressley III Mr. Pressley, 79, of Mint Hill, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2011 at Lake Park Nursing and Rehab, following several years of declining health. 'John Boy'-'Elvis,' as he was called by many, was born in Charlotte, NC, on September 19, 1931, the only child of John Franklin Pressley II and Myrtle Furr Pressley. A graduate of Fairview High School in Union County, NC, he served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. After his discharge in 1955, he went to work for the U.S. Postal Service and retired in 1990 with 37 1/2 years of service. John was a member of Wilson Grove Baptist Church in Mint Hill. He belonged to the Woodmen of the World Lodge #3 and was also a member of Mint Hill Masonic Lodge. John is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patty Mullis Pressley; two sons Doug Pressley (Jody), Rick Pressley (Tina), both of Mint Hill; two daughters, Sandy Riggins (Bob) of Charlotte, Sherry Dickerson (Nathan) of Indian Trail; five grandchildren, Corey, Dustin, Jason (Tiffany), Chris Pressley, and Cliff Riggins; one granddaughter, Keely Hayes (Tyler); and by three great-granddaughters. A visitation will be held at McEwen - Mint Hill Chapel on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 from 6:00 - 8:30 pm. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Sunset Memory Gardens with Rev. Clint Pressley and Rev. Grant Hoffman officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Mint Hill Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 23065, Mint Hill, NC 28227 or Hospice & Palliative Care, Charlotte Region, 1420 East 7th St., Charlotte, NC 28204.
