Death

CARBONDALE — Marcella I. Furr, 64, of Carbondale died Sunday, June 27, 1999, at 9:15 p.m. at her home. She was born on Aug. 16, 1934, in St. Louis, to the late John Wendell and Marie (Long) Hampton. She married Hubert Furr on Oct. 22, 1955, in St. Louis. They were married 44 years. He survives of Carbondale. Mrs. Furr was a member of the First Baptist Church in Marion. She was an avid quilter and enjoyed reading and spending time with her family. She was a full-time homemaker. Other survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Robert Ruggiero of Jackson, NJ; one son, John Furr of Springfield and one granddaughter, Donna Lee Ruggiero of Jackson, NJ. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, John Liston Hampton. Graveside funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, 1999, at Herrin City Cemetery. Rev. Lee Swope will officiate. Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Foundation and will be accepted at the funeral home.
