Death
William F. Rellstab, Jr. passed away peacefully in his River Ridge, LA home on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at the age of 86. A native of Pittsburgh, PA, he joined the Army Air Corps in 1943 and served two tours as a B-17 navigator, flying his first mission on D-Day. After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh in engineering with a masters in economics, he came to New Orleans in 1946 and operated a tugboat business for several years. Later he served as vice president of the J. Aron Company, president of the Kearney Group and as a consultant for the Dupuy Storage and Forwarding Company – all involved with the importation of green coffee beans and the warehousing of various other commodities. Active in a number of civic and port groups, he was also a Public Belt Railroad commissioner from 1980-2002 and served as Public Belt Railroad's president pro-tem from 1997 – 1999. Mr. Rellstab is survived by his wife, Ouida Rellstab; his son, William F. Rellstab, III (Haydee) of Tucaman, Argentina; a sister, Carolyn Pool of West Hills, CA; a stepdaughter, Cielle Muller Clemenceau (George) of Katy, TX; a stepson, Martin Gean Muller of River Ridge, LA; nephews, Brian, Michael and Steven Furr and William Kaylor and seven step grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Gertrude Furr of Picayune, MS. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church, 1545 State Street in New Orleans where he was an elder and a member for 60 years at 2:00 PM on Friday, September 24, 2010.
