Helen Holt Gibson FLORENCE - A funeral service for Helen Holt Gibson, widow of Richard L. Gibson, will be at 11:00AM Thursday June 10, 2010 in Christian Assembly Church conducted by Pastor's Dean Baber and Rabon Stewart. Interment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00PM Wednesday night at Cain Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the K. Mrema Special Project, C/O Christian Assembly Church, 401 Pamplico Highway, Florence, SC 29505. Mrs. Gibson, 82, died Monday June 7, 2010, in a local hospice. She was born, November 20, 1927 in Dillon County, SC, to the late Hyman Price and Emma Helen Turbeville Holt. She was also predeceased by son, Richard Gibson Jr. Mrs. Gibson, affectionately known as "The Queen", was a graduate of Lake View High School, class of 1945 and McLeod School of Nursing class of 1948. She twice was awarded the Florence Nightingale Student Nurse of the Year. For the next 45 years, she was a nurse for various area hospitals and agencies. She was an active member of Christian Assembly Church. She loved her family, gardening, to travel and was full of life. Surviving are: sons H. P. "Sam" (Mary) Gibson of Florence, Warren Douglas (Ashley) Gibson of Conway, and J. Eric (Sarah) Gibson of Annapolis, MD; daughters Emma Stormie (James) Foxworth of Florence and Dixie (Jerry) Furr of Charlotte, NC; daughter-in-law Sybil Bryant Montrose of Florence; sixteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren. The family wants to especially thank, Dr. Michael Pavy and staff, McLeod Hospice, Susan Russell, Dottie Roscinski, Evelyn Heck, Pat Baker and many other friends.Morning News, Florence, South Carolina, June 9, 2010
