Death

CONCORD — Oliver Leroy Helms, 90, of 98 Sunderland Hall Rd. died at 4:30 a.m. Saturday at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital after an illness of five weeks. Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Monday at West Concord Baptist Church by Rev. William D. Byrd and Rev. Jack Hames. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Baptist Church cemetery. The body will be taken from Wilkinson's Funeral Home to the residence at 2 p.m. today and will remain there until taken to the church at the funeral hour. Mr. Helms was born in Mecklenburg county Aug. 4, 1876, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harmon Helms. He was a retired employee of Brown Manufacturing Co, and a member of West Concord Baptist Church. Surviving are wife, Mrs. Essie H. Helms; three daughters, Mrs. Nadine Gentry of Concord, Mrs. Wilma Poplin of Clemmett, and Mrs. Margie Kluttz of Salisbury; two step-daughters, Mrs. Hazel Clark of Concord and Mrs. Sadie Williams of Melbourne, Fla.; three sons, Oliver Helms, Jr. of Kannapolis and Edward Helms and Clarence Helms, both of Concord; one brother, Ernest Helms of Charlotte; 19 grandchildren.
