Death
Our precious mother, Rebecca Kiker Nichols, died on May 13, 2010 surrounded by her family. Rebecca was born October 15, 1929. She was the oldest of nine children born to Lonnie Fincher and Gertrude Sikes Kiker. Rebecca graduated from Rockingham High School in 1947 and then graduated from Charlotte Business College. She worked in the Richmond County Register of Deeds Office and later retired from CSX in Hamlet. Rebecca is survived by her daughter, Martha and husband Barry Furr of Albemarle; her daughter Emily Nichols, of the home; her son Edwin L. Nichols and wife Pam of Rockingham; and daughter Sarah Carter of Wagram. Rebecca is also survived by her grandchildren Edwin Nichols Jr. and wife Rebecca of Youngsville, Laura Nichols of Rockingham, Daniel Furr of Asheboro, Alison Furr of Albemarle, Jason Vuncannon of Ellerbe, and Jessie Vuncannon of Rockingham. Rebecca treasured her children and grandchildren, and was a model of faithfulness and generosity to them. Rebecca was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Nichols, in 1988 and by her sister, Harriet Swanson. She is survived by her sisters and brothers; Medriath Kiker of Southern Pines, Lonnie Fincher Kiker and wife Margaret of Sanford, David Kiker and wife Denise of Raleigh, Ellar Hicks and husband Bill of Mooresville, Julia Black and husband Danny of Weaverville, Everett Kiker and wife Polly of Rockingham, and Lynn Kiker of Rockingham. In addition, she is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She loved Zion United Methodist Church and was an active member for more than 50 years. She taught Sunday School classes and was a leader in her women's group. She quietly went about doing good for anyone who had a need in her church family. She enjoyed the outdoors and appreciated the beauty of nature. The family will receive friends Saturday, May 15, 2010 prior to the funeral service; from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Zion United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Ray Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
